Custom tiles you create
Zazzle has a new print-on-demand product—custom tiles that you create. These would make great gifts for newlyweds and you can add an optional frame which turns it into an instant trivet. Above are two of my designs (quatrefoil and perching birds) that you can customize with names and dates in the charming ink zazzle shop.
Paper that plays music
The Uniform agency has developed paper that plays music through a process called conductive ink. This technology basically creates printed electronics which can be on almost any surface, not just paper. Several other contributors made this project a reality: Dr Jon Rogers, Mike Shorter and Tom Metcalfe of the University of Dundee; Dr Kate Stone, Cambridge Printed Electronics specialists Novalia; artists & musicians of FOUND; and Kenny Anderson aka King Creosote. See more about this emerging technology at the Uniform blog.
The wedding
I went to the most beautiful wedding last night. When it was time to send the bride and groom off in total style the guests were given sparklers to light their way. It was a magical moment.
Type Fight — may the best font win
Type Fight is a collaborative project started by Drew Roper and Ryan Paule. Periodically they and guest fighters pit themselves against one another in designing a particular letter or character. The winner is decided by the community through voting. There are some seriously talented font freaks in this ring duking it out.
Dollar Shave Club
Dollar Shave Club. Simply brilliant. I would love the opportunity to work on advertising this humorous and irreverent. It's also about time there was some competition to the big razor companies. The prices are getting a tad ridiculous.
Upcycled plastic bag lampshade
Yep. You read the headline correctly. This is an upcycled lampshade made from plastic bags. Allison of Reduce, Reuse, Redecorate is the force behind this creation. She's also selling these ruffled rosette beauties in her Etsy shop Zipper8Lighting.
