This is what I call charming. It's the snow cone ship in the neighborhood. It dropped anchor one day and started peddling shaved ice. That's one classy operation. Arrgh.
After yesterday's post about S.P.W.'s shrink plastic buttons I was inspired to give it a try. I found it a little tricky to work three times bigger than the final size, but it's definitely worth the effort to use proper measurements. These are going to be pendants that I plan to hang from a simple black cord with a silver lobster clasp. I'd love to see other people's creations if you've ever dabbled with the shrinky dinks.

Run, don't walk over to S.P.W. (scissors.paper.wok) and check out this shrink plastic button tutorial by Kimanh. So cute it hurts. Be sure to watch her lovely stop-motion movie clip as well. Tres chic.
I was in a taxi that day, turning onto 6th Avenue to head downtown to the meatpacking district for a photo shoot that was to appear in an inflight magazine for Delta. The sight was impossible to comprehend. The building looked like it had a great, bloody wound with the orange fire tearing at the edges. We sat in shock and disbelief thinking this was just a horrible accident. The rest of the day was spent wandering from hospital to hospital trying to give blood, to find some way, any way to help and the city was silent. No horns honking, no buzz and clamor that normally fill the air. Just birds chirping and everyone meeting each another's eyes with the question of why the world had just turned upside down.
