Cheeseburger in Portland, Oregon at Byways Cafe

I've got a thing for cheeseburgers and one of my favorites so far is the "Classic Byways Burger" at the Byways Cafe in Portland, Oregon.

This burger is not for those in possession of a petit appetite. It's a 1/3 lb. patty made from Painted Hills organic ground beef served up with lettuce, tomato, onion and your choice of cheese.

They're only open for breakfast and lunch so don't dally.

Lilies, roses and freesia! Oh my!

My sweetie surprised me a delivery of flowers for my birthday. Awwww. I love flowers—I come to a dead halt when passing by them and never pass up an opportunity to "stop and smell the roses." So it always makes me a little sad when my floral friends start to fade and wither.

I was saved by the farmers market and a vendor called Patty & Company with the cutest silk flower hair accessories and hats. She had a sweet clip with the same blossoms and crystal embellishments so I can have my flowers indefinitely.

Shoes. I've always loved well-designed shoes, but the cost is often prohibitive which is probably a good thing since I have limited closet space. The right shoe can literally make or break an outfit and this is the reason we women often have so darn many pairs of shoes. They are lovely pieces of sculpture in my opinion. This vintage spectator pump is on my latest personal stationery notecard design.

Cioppino at Roots Restaurant and Cellar

Ever tasted cioppino? It is divine. What the heck is cioppino you ask? is a fish stew with origins in San Francisco and is traditionally made from the catch of the day, which in San Francisco is typically a combination of clams, dungeness crab, shrimp, scallops, squid, mussels and fish. It's similar  to bouillabaisse and I was lucky enough to have it not in San Francisco, but in Milwaukee at Roots Restaurant and Cellar. I occasionally travel for editorial stories doing backup photography for fact-checking and I'm a firm believer in eating what you shoot so things don't go to waste.

I get heartsick thinking about food photo shoots where much of the grub goes into the trash. It's a sin in my book so I help out in my small way by shooting fast and making sure someone gets to sample the chef's creations if it's not me.

These craftspeople take used glass bottles of all shapes and sizes and turn them into vases, tumblers and glasses.

I love these Grey Goose vodka bottle tumblers. $30 for a set of two.

Painting of the day [dress & shoes]

illustration © charming ink/lachelle viaToday's inspiration for the daily(ish) painting is fashion and specifically a lovely bridesmaid dress I recently saw. I'm a big fan of choosing dresses your bridal attendants can use again because these dresses ain't cheap. Daffodil yellow is back and vogue and changed the sash from black to a rich brown. Paired with some chocolate pumps this little number would look smashing with a bouquet of small sunflowers.

If you're looking for a special way to invite a special woman to be your bridesmaid, this illustration can be purchased as a customizable card complete with envelope here.
